Ten “Ones To Watch” for 2017

2016 has been another impressive year in Scottish professional wrestling, with plenty of new faces and those making heads turn. Credit is due to the amazing wrestling schools up and down the country that produce and fine tune prospective wrestlers to make them as solid and befitting of the training received. Here I take a look at 10 names to look out for at a show near you in 2017.

Jason Reed

The cheeky Jason Reed has been making his way around the country this year from W3L to WrestleZone to Discovery Wrestling. The highly charismatic youngster has gained popularity throughout 2016, he placed 2nd in the OSWtv Year End Awards for 2015 in the One To Watch (Male) 2016 category and has certainly been giving us reasons to watch.

Dylan Angel

A product of the PBW Academy, the high flying Angel recently made his ICW debut against Lionheart in an impressive showing. Angel has been up to The Highlands for Rock N Wrestle and down to Scottish School of Wrestling along with his home company Premier British Wrestling.

Aaron Echo

Another PBW Academy alumni who didn’t look out of place when he stood in the ring in front of 6,193 fans at ICW Fear & Loathing IX. He’s a big lad but with deceptive agility, he joined the reformed The Aggression in BCW along with Kid Fite, Lou King Sharp and Davey Blaze. Splitting away from The Rich Kids in ICW to take his own path will surely see the talented Echo capture gold soon enough.

Lucha DS

The Greenock Luchador has been hitting our screens as part of the relaunch of Time Commanders recently but it’s his acrobatics in the ring that sets him aside. The popular masked grappler has been to PBW, SSW and Discovery Wrestling and has left an impression wherever he goes with his risk taking dives.

Delsin Dayre

From Reckless Intent, the one man that always impresses me is Delsin Dayre whether it’s part of The Comixzone with Sean Mercer or on his own, Dayre is a wrestler that just seems gifted. Another big guy with bags of agility, he’s only been seen outside of Reckless Intent briefly for Discovery Wrestling and SWE but has all the tools to be a good hand in any company he enters.

The Purge

First tag team on the list is the wholey impressive The Purge. Krobar and Stevie James are from Glasgow Pro Wrestling Asylum and bring a nastiness to their teamwork that looks rough and brutal. The tag team scene in the country is looking a bit thin and The Purge certainly can, and likely will, take advantage.

Zach Dynamite

After a long hiatus due to injury, Zach Dynamite returned to WrestleZone in 2016 looking almost unrecognisable. He looked like he was in incredible shape and was quicker than ever before. A hidden gem in WrestleZone, of which they have many. Hehasn’t had many matches since returning but is still in the Tri-Counties Title Tournament and is a favourite to win the whole thing and become the inagural WrestleZone Tri-Counties Champion.

The Scud Master, the big bruising Krieger from PBW has the talent, the charisma and boots that are made for scudding. Whether it’s teaming with Lou King Sharp and providing sexy dancing or with TJ Rage and providing batterings, Krieger is one that I look forward to seeing more of in 2017.

The Kings of Catch

The team of last year’s ‘OSWtv Year End Award One To Watch’, Aspen Faith and ‘The Best Young Wrestler’ Lewis Girvan. Two incredible wrestlers, two guys that match up perfectly. They started the year facing each other on numerous occasions up at WrestleZone but formed an alliance in SWA which has seen them break out some fantastic tag team moves. Another team that will be one to check out in 2017 as they look to get some gold to match their crowns.

Shawn Johnson

Sterling Oil’s Shawn Johnson is another hidden gem at WrestleZone, he briefly appeared iin Discovery Wrestling and put in a good showing. His team with Alan Sterling in WrestleZone is fantastic, he easily goads fans into hating him and has shown a more vicious and calculated side of his repertoire in the last 12 months since alligning with Richard R Russells stable.

So there it is, ten to watch for 2017. Thank me later. Did I miss anyone? Comment below!
