Discovery Wrestling – June 2017 Preview by Adam Morrison

Discovery Wrestling are back with another show this Friday from the Portobello Town Hall in Edinburgh. Plenty of things have been happening in Disco over the last few months. 3 tournaments are currently ongoing, the international guests have been getting bigger as the show’s go on and Lewis Girvan is still our Y Division Champion. But for how much longer?

If Joe Coffey wins, he gets a shot at the Y Division Championship in September.
If Joe Coffey loses, he gets no more title shots as long as Lewis Girvan is champion.
The Kings of Catch (Lewis Girvan & Aspen Faith) vs Joe Coffey & Joe Hendry

Since becoming the Y Division Champion back in November 2015, Lewis Girvan has put back numerous challengers. From local heroes to villains to iron men. His retain against Joe Coffey at Discovery’s show back in March came with the help of fellow King of Catch Aspen Faith, as the pair brought their tag team down to Edinburgh. After Aspen defeated Joe via disqualification at the show last month, both Kings of Catch hold a victory over The Iron Man. As a result, Joe went to Discovery management who have given him a huge opportunity. He’ll team with a fellow Joe in Joe Hendry to face The Kings of Catch this Friday. If he wins, he’ll face Lewis Girvan for the Y Division Championship at the 3 year anniversary show in September. But if he loses, Joe won’t be allowed another shot at the title for as long as Lewis holds it. Massive implications on Joe Coffey’s future in Discovery Wrestling.

Hotter Than Hell Edinburgh Invitational: Quarterfinals
Dave Conrad vs Wildcard

The Hotter Than Hell Edinburgh Invitational continutes this Friday with the last quarterfinal, which sees Dave Conrad facing off against the second wildcard entrant in the tournament. The winner of the Hotter Than Hell Edinburgh Invitational will earn a shot at the Y Division Title whenever they choose. The Juggernaut has been on fire recently, sending Big Damo out of Discovery and also advancing to the finals of Uncivil War alongside Deviation. While Mikey Whiplash found out his wildcard opponent (none other than the fantastic Matt Riddle), it looks as if Conrad will have to wait for his opponent to walk through the curtain until he finds out who it is.

Discovery Women’s Championship Tournament: Semifinals
Sammii Jayne vs Toni Storm

The tournament to crown the first Women’s Champion in Discovery Wrestling continues this Friday with the last two semifinals. Up first, Sammii Jayne faces the debuting Toni Storm. Sammii was originally scheduled to face Impact Wrestling star Angelina Love, but she is now unable to appear. As a result, The Queen of Catch is now set to face a woman lighting the wrestling world on fire Toni Storm. Saying that however, Sammii has been doing just the same. Earlier this year, Sammii was able to step in to the ring with the likes of Meiko Satomura and Emi Sakura while also picking up the Pro Wrestling: EVE Championship, adding her name to a list including the likes of current WWE stars Paige and Nikki Cross. Toni meanwhile became the inaugural PROGRESS Women’s Champion and was chosen as a competitor in WWE’s upcoming Mae Young Classic taking place in July. Now, both women have a chance to make more history in trying to become the first ever Discovery Women’s Champion.

Discovery Women’s Championship Tournament: Semifinals
Jayla Dark vs Lucy Cole

The other semifinal will see Lucy Cole taking on the newly rechristened Jayla Dark. Lucy is somewhat a dark horse in this tournament. Perhaps the rookie out of the women involved, she will have something to prove against Jayla Dark. Jayla on the other hand has been impressing with each match. Changing her name could mean a completely new attitude, so we could be seeing a different woman from what we’re used to on Friday. Both of these women are yet to win gold in their careers, so a win here could propel them to that first taste of gold.

Uncivil War Qualifier
The Headbanders (Jackie Grady & Rob Mills) vs Buffet Club (Rob Cage & Gene Munny)

Uncivil War, which is being used to determine the 2017 Discovery Tag Team Champions, continues this Friday as Buffet Club take on a team making their Discovery Wrestling debut, The Headbanders. Buffet Club made a huge statement as soon as they arrived in Discovery Wrestling, taking out The Wild Lions upon their arrival. Their undefeated streak came to an end this past April at the hands of Polo Promotions. Having not seen too much of The Headbanders, there’s not much to say about them. If they want to move forward to the Uncivil War Finals, they’ll have to get through the Gordon Ramsay of tag team wrestling.

Angélico vs Joseph Conners

Discovery always bring in the best talent they can for their shows. So making his return to Edinburgh this Friday night is Lucha Underground star Angélico. After losing to Joe Coffey back in March of last year, the South African superstar makes his return to the nation’s capital. His opponent for the evening? None other than WWE UK Championship Tournament competitor and Discovery debutant Joseph Conners! The Righteous Killer has been tearing it up in companies like SWE and TCW, and almost ended the career of current NXT star Drew McIntyre over in WCPW. Angélico has no easy match for his return to Scotland. Will it be a Righteous Kill for the high flying sensation, or will he pick up the victory?
