In association with NJPW, CMLL and RevPro, Ring of Honor are proud to bring their War of the Worlds tour to the UK from August 18th-20th, with the last day of the tour taking place from the Edinburgh Corn Exchange. Following the success of the annual tour in North America since 2014, ROH have decided to expand upon that by holding their first ever show here in Scotland and what a card they have for us.
The Addiction (Frankie Kazarian & Christopher Daniels) vs Bullet Club (Cody & Marty Scurll)
The main event for this Sunday’s show will see The Addiction facing off against Bullet Club members Marty Scurll and the reigning ROH World Champion, Cody, in a huge tag team grudge match. The rivalry between The Addiction and Bullet Club has been going on for many months now, but it all came to a head when Frankie Kazarian shockingly joined Bullet Club, only for it be used as a ruse to assist Christopher Daniels in finally winning the World Championship from then-member Adam Cole back at the 15th Anniversary Show. Ever since Cody won the gold from Daniels at Best in the World this past June, The Addiction have been hell-bent on destroying The American Nightmare. With the UK’s very own Marty Scurll teaming with Cody in this match, Daniels and Kazarian could be leaving Scotland with a few broken fingers.
ROH World Six Man Tag Team Championships
Dalton Castle & The Boys (c) vs Bullet Club (Hangman Page & The Young Bucks (Matt Jackson & Nick Jackson))
The ROH World Six Man Tag Team Championships will be defended this Sunday in Edinburgh as Dalton Castle and The Boys put their gold on the line against Bullet Club members Hangman Page and the reigning ROH World Tag Team Champions, The Young Bucks. Since winning the belts from the seemingly unstoppable trio Bully Ray and The Briscoes at Best in the World, Castle and his Boys have functioned so well. However, they may not even be champions come Edinburgh as they are set to defend their gold against Jushin “Thunder” Liger, Mistico and Delirious in London on night of the tour with the champions advancing to face Bullet Club. BC are no strangers to six man championships, with 3 reigns as the NEVER Openweight Six Man Tag Team Champions over in Japan. Will Castle and The Boys have enough magic to enter and exit the UK as the ROH World Six Man Tag Team Champions, or will Bullet Club add even more gold to their ever-growing trophy cabinet?
Edinburgh Street Fight
Jay Lethal vs Silas Young
One of the most heated rivalries in recent memory comes to a head on Sunday as Jay Lethal battles Silas Young in an Edinburgh Street Fight. This hatred between the two began at ROH’s show in Lockport, New York last September. On that night, Lethal defeated Young in a fantastic contest before the two drew numbers one and two in the 2016 Honor Rumble, which Young went on to win to earn a shot at the ROH World Championship by lastly eliminating Lethal. Despite that, Lethal has gotten all the media appearances which has gotten under the skin of Pro Wrestling’s Last Real Man. Silas and his tag partner The Beer City Bruiser have tried to end the career of The Greatest First Generation Wrestler, with Bruiser frog splashing Lethal through a table on the outside. Both of these men are highly skilled wrestlers, but with no rules come Sunday in Edinburgh who knows what could possibly happen.
Ultimo Guerrero & Rey Bucanero vs The Briscoes (Jay Briscoe & Mark Briscoe)
CMLL legends Ultimo Guerrero and Rey Bucanero will be facing The Briscoes in tag team action on the final night of the War of the Worlds UK tour. Since ROH announced their partnership with CMLL, Guerrero has become one of the most beloved wrestlers to come from Mexico. The former CMLL World Heavyweight Champion was part of the tournament to crown the inaugural ROH World Six Man Tag Team Champions, where he engaged in a fierce rivalry with Matt Taven of The Kingdom. Teaming with Guerrero in Scotland is his long-time tag team partner back in Mexico, Rey Bucanero. Rey has seen his fair share of championship success, holding the CMLL World Lightweight Championship and the CMLL World Tag Team Championships a total of four times, with three of those reigns being alongside Guerrero. They’ll be facing the most decorated team in ROH history The Briscoes. Jay and Mark have been ROH World Tag Team Champions a record-breaking 8 times, while also holding the IWGP Tag Team Championships once and the NEVER Openweight Six Man Tag Team Titles twice alongside Toru Yano. Two of the most successful teams in recent history are set to go head to head in Edinburgh!
Bully Ray vs EVIL
A huge singles match has been signed to take place in Edinburgh as Bully Ray faces EVIL of Los Ingobernables de Japon. After Ray and The Briscoes retained the ROH World Six Man Tag Team Titles in a barbaric match against EVIL, SANADA and BUSHI in a No DQ Match at the recent War of the Worlds tour in May, both Bully and EVIL have petitioned to Ring of Honor management for a one on one match this Sunday. Since making his shocking debut back in March at Manhattan Mayhem, Bully Ray has established himself as one of the most dominant forces in ROH today. But EVIL has quickly proven why he’s one of 2017’s breakout stars, with wins over two Japanese legends in Hiroshi Tanahashi and Yuji Nagata during the New Japan Cup earlier this year. Expect this one to get chaotic as these two face off one on one for the first time ever!
Hiromu Takahashi vs Mark Haskins
The War of the Worlds UK tour will allow several UK talent to make their ROH debuts, with names like Sha Samuels and Ryan Smile signed for other dates on the tour. Another name set to debut is Mark Haskins and he’ll be facing LIJ member Hiromu Takahashi in Edinburgh. These two previously faced off at RevPro’s New Territory show back in November 2013 when Takahashi was known as Kamaitachi. Haskins was victorious in that encounter, but since rechristening himself Hiromu Takahashi has been on a wave of success. Not only is he one of two Japanese finalists in the WCPW Pro Wrestling World Cup at the end of August, but he is also a former IWGP Junior Heavyweight Champion as he won the gold from KUSHIDA at the Tokyo Dome show at the start of the year. Takahashi will be much more experienced when he returns to the UK, but will it be enough to beat a man the calibre of Mark Haskins?
Josh Bodom vs Kenny King
The current RevPro British Cruiserweight Champion will also make his ROH debut during the tour as Josh Bodom faces off against Kenny King. Bodom has been on a tear as of late, defeating names such as the current wXw Shotgun Champion David Starr, Ryan Smile and the man he defeated to become the champion back in April, Will Ospreay. Now, Bodom looks to bring his winning ways to Ring of Honor as he goes up against Kenny King. Kenny was a member of The Rebellion faction before they were forced to split after losing to Search & Destroy at Best in the World, but since then he’s really turned his career around. After earning the most eliminations in the recent Gateway to the Gold Gauntlet Match and a shot at KUSHIDA’s ROH World Television Championship, Kenny will look to pick up even more momentum when he comes to Scotland.
KUSHIDA, Mistico & Titan vs Los Ingobernables de Japon (Tetsuya Naito, SANADA & BUSHI)
The last match signed for Sunday will see the ROH World Television and IWGP Junior Heavyweight Champion KUSHIDA team with CMLL stars Mistico and Titan to face the Los Ingobernables de Japon trio of the G1 Climax 27 winner Tetsuya Naito and 2/3 of the current NEVER Openweight Six Man Tag Team Champions, BUSHI and SANADA. KUSHIDA won the Junior Heavyweight Title from another LIJ member Hiromu Takahashi back in June after winning this year’s Best of the Super Juniors. Tetsuya Naito’s stable have been running over NJPW since their formation, with Naito constantly disrespecting the IWGP Intercontinental Championship belt while he was champion and defeating Kenny Omega to win this year’s G1 Climax. While BUSHI and SANADA hold the NEVER Openweight Six Man Tag Team Titles, Mistico could also be heading to Edinburgh with some six man gold as he teams with Delirious and Jushin “Thunder” Liger to challenge Dalton Castle and The Boys for their ROH World Six Man Tag Team Championships in London two nights before. A stacked six man tag team match to round off the card for this Sunday in Edinburgh.
