Discovery Wrestling plan to kick off 2018 with a bang as they present The Disco Derby on Friday January 19th from The Jam House in Edinburgh. Already signed for the event is a huge tag team bout between The Kings of Catch and CCK. But what about The Disco Derby itself? The rules for the match are simple;

There will be 20 entrants, either making their Discovery Wrestling debut or those who have made very limited appearances for the company. Two entrants will start, with others entering every 90 seconds. Elimination is by being thrown over the top rope with both feet touching the floor, until we are down to the final two. From there, it’s pinfall or submission until we have a winner. The winner of The Disco Derby will become a permanent member of the Discovery roster.

Co-owner Alan Smith has said there will be entrants from all over Scotland and from further afield aswell. Who could possibly be there on January 19th to enter the match? Let’s take a look!

Honourable mentions;
Damien (would’ve been number one but as he said, he has a young family and doesn’t want to be travelling too much)
Kaden Garrick (if he’s resurfaced)
Mikkey Vago (if he’s back from his concussion)

1. Shawn Johnson

Career Highlights;
1x Undisputed WrestleZone Champion
5x WrestleZone Tag Team Champion
2017 WrestleZone Regal Rumble Winner

One of the best graduates from the WrestleZone Training Academy, Shawn Johnson has prospered since joining Sterling Oil at the end of 2015. Finally winning the Undisputed WrestleZone Championship at Aberdeen Anarchy earlier this June, the former Granite City Hotshot has been at the front of WrestleZone for some time now. Having made one appearance for Discovery Wrestling in the past in the summer of 2016, how about a return to Edinburgh for the Sterling Oil golden boy?

2. Crusher Craib

Career Highlights;
2x Undisputed WrestleZone Champion
2012, 2013 and 2016 WrestleZone Regal Rumble Winner

Another Sterling Oil member in the form of “The Creator of Carnage” Crusher Craib. After being sidelined with an injury at Aberdeen Anarchy 2016, WrestleZone’s resident powerhouse returned at this year’s Anarchy to rejoin Sterling Oil. After putting Scotty Swift on the shelf with a severe concussion, Craib has cemented his spot in WrestleZone once more. Discovery Wrestling would be a great place for the big man to lace up his boots with plenty of fantastic opportunities against the likes of Dave Conrad or Rampage Brown.

3. Scotty Swift

Career Highlights;
2x Undisputed WrestleZone Champion
1x WrestleZone No Limits Champion
1x WrestleZone Heavyweight Champion
1x WrestleZone Tag Team Champion
1x SWE Heavyweight Champion
1x SWE Future Division Champion
2015 WrestleZone Regal Rumble Winner

Staying in Aberdeenshire, it doesn’t get more like WrestleZone than Scotty Swift. Having been the backbone of the company for many years, The Red Haired Warrior has done all there is to do in The Granite City promotion (only exception being the newly introduced Tri-Counties Championship). Having been sidelined with a concussion, among other long-term injuries, back in September, Swift is set to return on December 2nd and will more than likely be able to compete in The Disco Derby.

4. Mr P

Career Highlights;
2x WrestleZone Tag Team Champion

Staying up in WrestleZone territory as we have former management representative and now proud Scotsman, Mr P. The former authority figure has excelled since becoming a permanent member of the roster, with great matches against the likes of Johnny Lions, Aspen Faith and most recently Nathan North. His happy-go-lucky attitude has seen him become adored by the fans and it’s about time he extends his work outside of just WrestleZone. Discovery Wrestling would be a great place to start, so why not through him in The Disco Derby?

5. Bryan Tucker

Career Highlights;
1x Undisputed WrestleZone Champion
4x WrestleZone Tag Team Champion
2011 WrestleZone Regal Rumble Winner

Up next is a man who’s done it all in WrestleZone in the form of Bryan Tucker. Tucker was on a huge losing streak before going the full distance and winning the 2011 Regal Rumble Match, before going on to win the Undisputed WrestleZone Championship. Fair enough, he might have the shortest reign in history at a mere 48 days but it’s still going to be there on his record. Since returning last year with a new look, Tucker could do with debuting in some new companies and Discovery would be a perfect place to start. The former Granite City Hotshot would be perfect in the Edinburgh-based company.

6. Nathan North

Career Highlights;
N/A

Vintage! Despite only making his official main roster debut in February earlier this year in Montrose, Nathan North has certainly impressed me. The Vintage One has graced the WrestleZone fans with his classy attitude to life. Plus, it helps if you have Jeeves Winchester as a manager because he is the best of the best. I think Nathan would be perfect in The Disco Derby, and if he was to enter then it would be absolutely vintage!

7. Aaron Echo

Career Highlights;
2017 GPWA Asylum Invitational Winner

Aaron Echo has got to be one of the best graduates to come from the PBW Academy. The blue-chip athlete has a fantastic style in the ring and has the attitude to back it up. The Disco Derby is the perfect place to introduce him to the fans of Discovery Wrestling, adding him to the growing list of PBW stars making it far in Disco. Echo is without a doubt one of the greatest prospects on the Scottish wrestling scene just now, with his victory in the Asylum Invitational this past May proving that.

8. Zach Dynamite

Career Highlights;
1x WrestleZone Tri-Counties Champion

Back up to WrestleZone now, as we have Zach Dynamite. After making his return from injury after two years on the shelf at last year’s Battle of the Nations event, Dynamite has proven he’s gotten much better in the ring since injuring his knee. After finally winning his first title after 7 years of hard work, Zach could maybe start looking to add extra companies to his résumé, with Disco yet again being a fine place to start off. Now that he’s Reloaded, it’s time for Zach Dynamite to expand outwith the north-east.

9. Steven “Air” Myles

Career Highlights;
1x SWE Heavyweight Champion
2x SWE Future Division Champion

Now for the current SWE Heavyweight Champion and gWo member, Steven “Air” Myles. Myles has massively impressed this year since winning the Heavyweight Title from Euan G. Mackie, but only wrestles regularly for SWE with an occasional appearance at United Pro Wrestling. Myles has the potential to make it in a promotion such as Discovery with other SWE stars also having appeared in the past, such as Ian Ambrose and Stallyon. Steven could certainly benefit from getting his name out there and if there’s ever been a place to do that, it’s Discovery Wrestling.

10. Jonathan Richards

Career Highlights;
N/A

Up next is one of the most charismatic youngsters in Scottish wrestling, it’s “The Fabulous One” Jonathan Richards. Richards has gone on to make a name for himself for promotions like PBW and SSW, but it would be fabulous (no pun intended) for him to get his name around the Scottish circuit more. As mentioned previously, a great place to do just that is Discovery Wrestling. Could totally see Richards fitting in down there.

11. Ravie Davie

Career Highlights;
2016 ICW Breakout Star of the Year

“The Fresh Prince of Drumoyne Square” Ravie Davie has been become one of the most recognisable young names in Scottish wrestling since the inception of GPWA. Going on to ‘get married’ to Session Moth Martina (are they married if the ceremony never finished?), Davie has also had a bit of a bad run this year in ICW after getting his face broken by Bram and then getting suspended for fighting back. But now he has the chance to wrestle at The Hydro. If he can do that, I’m sure he’d have no problems competing in The Disco Derby.

12. Krieger

Career Highlights;
1x PBW Tag Team Champion
1x SSW Tag Team Champion

Krieger recently made his Disco debut as a replacement in the Uncivil War Finals for Liam Thomson, competing alongside his trainer and mentor Kid Fite. Aside from this, Scudmaster Sexy has been consistently one of the best performers of the last 12 months. Whether he’s making towns or scudding clowns, Krieger is also a fairly accomplished tag team wrestler, teaming with Disco regular Lou King Sharp as the current PBW Tag Team Champions. Having only made one appearance for the Edinburgh-based company, that makes Krieger eligible to enter The Disco Derby.

13. Kieran Kelly

Career Highlights;
1x Reckless Intent Hardcore Champion

Unlucky number 13 is one of the four semifinalists in this year’s Asylum Invitational and Source Wrestling standout Kieran Kelly. Since rechristening himself as Kieran Kelly earlier this year, Kelly has been on a roll with debuts for the likes of Premier British Wrestling and, as mentioned, Glasgow Pro Wrestling Asylum. Yet another name that I feel would fit in perfectly with Discovery Wrestling, Kieran is just at the start of his career. Should he come to Disco, I imagine he would be a sure-fire Y Division Champion.

14. Alan Sterling

Career Highlights;
5x WrestleZone Tag Team Champion
1x SWE Future Division Champion
1x SWE Tag Team Champion

Heading back up to WrestleZone as we have one of the country’s most accomplished tag team wrestlers in Sterling Oil’s Alan Sterling. Since ditching the whole lord fiasco in 2015, Alan has become one of the most destructive forces in WrestleZone. His brutal moveset, such as the DDT and Lariat, have made him near unstoppable. Being a total 6-time Tag Team Champion, Alan could become a mainstay in the DW tag team division even if he loses The Disco Derby. And his partner…

15. William Sterling

Career Highlights;
6x WrestleZone Tag Team Champion
1x SWE Tag Team Champion

Another incredible tag team wrestler William Sterling has become one of the most hated men in Scottish wrestling. Having been hated for years as part of Sterling Oil, it looked like William had finally found a nice side as he teamed with Blue Thunder as The Thunder Buddies. But that changed in 2015 with Sterling turning on Thunder to reform Sterling Oil. Like his brother Alan, he has held many tag titles, being a 7-time champion. As mentioned before, The Sterling Brothers could be a fantastic addition to the Discovery tag team division.

16. Drake

Career Highlights;
1x EWW St. George’s Champion
1x and first ever Calling Spots Champion
2x MEW Tag Team Champion
2016 Absolute King of the North Winner

Discovery management said The Disco Derby wouldn’t just be for the Scottish athletes so with that, I present “The Gimmick Killer” Drake. Having been a mainstay for companies like Absolute Wrestling and WCPW (now Defiant Wrestling), Drake has been around and has killed all your favourite gimmicks. The current Calling Spots Champion would make a grand addition to the roster, with several other WCPW stars already there with the likes of Joe Coffey and BT Gunn.

17. Alex Gracie

Career Highlights;
1x LCW Champion
1x and first ever 3CW Champion
1x HOP Tag Team Champion

Another Englishman now in the form of “The Legend” Alex Gracie. Gracie has really excelled this year in the likes of WCPW and 3CW, where he is their current 3CW Champion. Ever since he kicked his Prospect partner Lucas Archer to the curb back in June, Gracie has dubbed himself a legend. While many call this just a nickname, his performances in the ring have proven he’s right. Yes, he may have kissed the rear end of Fat Ligero (a man beloved by the WCPW audience for whatever reason) but apart from that he’s had a great career thus far.

18. Bingo Ballance

Career Highlights;
3x and first ever IWW Zero-Gravity Champion
1x Undisputed WrestleZone Champion
1x and first ever CCW Heavyweight Champion
2009 SEW King of the Ring Winner
2010 WrestleZone Regal Rumble Winner

Bingo Ballance is a man that I’m surprised to hear isn’t that well recognised in Scottish wrestling, with the exception of up north in WrestleZone. The Zenith of Zero-G is however a well accomplished veteran in his nation of Ireland, being former CCW Heavyweight Champion and 3-time IWW Zero-Gravity Champion. With other high flyers such as Lucha DS already on the roster, Ballance would make a grand addition to future Discovery cards.

19. Luke Aldridge

Career Highlights;
2x SWE Tag Team Champion
1x W3L Tag Team Champion
1x Reckless Intent Hardcore Champion

Up next is the recently rechristened “Aldridge Odyssey” Luke Aldridge. Formerly known as Lucian Maynard Smith, Luke has developed a new mean streak as of late as opposed to his former nobleman persona. I’m surprised he’s not already been in Discovery Wrestling, he seems like he fit in perfectly fine. With more and more companies appearing to start booking the man who is All About Aldridge, Disco need to get their contacts through to Aldridge.

20. Chris Archer

Career Highlights;
2x WrestleZone Tag Team Champion

Finally, we have “The Outcast” Chris Archer. Having appeared for Discovery Wrestling once in 2015, Archer has become one of the best young talents on the WrestleZone roster. With great bouts against names like The Sterling Brothers and Disco regular Aspen Faith, Archer has really taken to the high flying style as of late. With his normal partner Mikkey Vago sitting on the sidelines, now’s the time for Chris Archer to break out on his own.

So, there we have it. Those are the 20 men who I think will be entering The Disco Derby. Who would you like to see enter the match? Tickets for the show are available now from shop.discoverywrestling.com.
