After their biggest year to date, WrestleZone plan to kick off 2018 with a bang when they return to Aberdeen’s Summerhill Hotel this Saturday. With this year being their tenth anniversary, it’s set to be even better and judging by this card, it’s hard to disagree.
Undisputed WrestleZone Championship
Shawn Johnson vs Damien (c)
In the first of three title matches for the first show of the year, “The Revolutionary” Damien will put his Undisputed Championship on the line against former champion Shawn Johnson, who cashes in his rematch clause. After his unforgettable match with Tyler Bate back at Battle of the Nations, Damien decided to part ways with Sterling Oil and go out on his own, a move that has proven to be beneficial to his career. Despite Shawn Johnson having help from the rest of Sterling Oil in their previous title match at Halloween Hijinx, Damien managed to pull through and become a two-time Undisputed Champion. After fantastic title defences against Nathan North, Andy Wild and Crusher Craib, Damien finds himself once again going one on one with Shawn Johnson. With the entirety of Sterling Oil standing across from him, it’ll be a tough night for Damien if he hopes to leave as the Undisputed Champion.
WrestleZone Tri-Counties Championship
Aspen Faith w/Sammii Jayne vs Zach Dynamite (c) w/Bradley Evans
In a rematch from November’s show in Huntly, Zach Dynamite with Bradley Evans once again standing in his corner will put his Tri-Counties Championship on the line against former and inaugural champion Aspen Faith, who will have Sammii Jayne in his corner for the first time in a while. After shocking fans with a surprising but well-deserved victory two months ago, Fully Loaded has had two successful defences so far, against Jason Reed and then in a Fatal Four Way Match against Faith, Bryan Tucker and Lou King Sharp at last month’s Christmas Chaos event. Despite losing the title, it hasn’t been all downhill for The King of Catch. Just one week after losing the title, Aspen found himself competing at The Hydro alongside Lewis Girvan against The Kinky Party. Aspen has stated he only collects championships and cats and he’s all out of championships. Having only held the gold since November, is Zach’s time up?
WrestleZone Tag Team Championships
Jason Reed & Andy Wild vs The Rejected (Chris Archer & Mikkey Vago) (c)
The Tag Team Championships are also on the line this Saturday when new champs The Rejected defend against the formidable duo of Jason Reed and Andy Wild. After winning the titles back from The Sterling Brothers in a fantastic Christmas Brawl last month, Chris Archer and Mikkey Vago now look set to start off the new year in style with a defence against Jason and Andy. Last year’s tag team division saw a few random pairings challenge for the titles, with Zach Dynamite and Bradley Evans failing to capture the Tag Team Championships in Balmedie, while Andy Wild and Nathan North were unsuccessful in Ellon. However, these random pairings have been successful in the past with Kaden Garrick and Mr P being two-time Tag Team Champions and Scotty Swift being a Tag Team Champion with former ROH World Champion Jay Lethal. Can Wild and Reed follow down the same path and end The Rejected’s third title reign after just a few weeks?
Crusher Craib vs Scotty Swift
In a rematch from Battle of the Nations, Sterling Oil’s Crusher Craib will take on Scotty Swift. After returning from injury at Aberdeen Anarchy, The Creator of Carnage interfered in the evening’s main event and booted Swift in the face, essentially handing the Undisputed Championship to the hands of Shawn Johnson. After Crusher cost Swift more matches, he sent him through a table at Proving Grounds, where a match was signed for September’s huge Battle of the Nations event. The match was more of a beatdown as Crusher destroyed Swift, connecting with three Big Boots that put The Red Haired Warrior on the shelf for the remainder of 2017 with a severe concussion. As Crusher challenged former Sterling Oil member Damien for the Undisputed Championship at last month’s Christmas Chaos event, he and the rest of Sterling Oil were met by four Santa’s at the end of the show. One eventually unmasked to reveal himself as the returning Scotty Swift, who put a beating to Crusher. With WrestleZone recently buying in a new ring, will it be enough to control these two when they face off in a huge grudge match?
Mr P, Bryan Tucker & Grado vs Nathan North & The Sterling Brothers (Alan Sterling & William Sterling)
The rivalry between Mr P and Nathan North will continue at Summerhill Showdown in a huge six man tag team match as Mr P teams with fellow fan favourites Bryan Tucker and the returning Grado to face the team of “Vintage” Nathan North and The Sterling Brothers. Ever since Battle of the Nations, P and North have been at each other’s throats with the pair having one victory over the other. North picked up the win in their first encounter back at Halloween Hijinx with the help of Jeeves Winchester, which resulted in a Handicap Match at last month’s Christmas Chaos event where P forced Winchester to tap out. The Vintage One took notice of the fact that he wasn’t the one that tapped out and made the challenge for a six man tag team match, revealing Alan and William Sterling as his partners. Mr P accepted, announcing Bryan Tucker and Grado to be on his side. WrestleZone management will hope to put this rivalry to a close as we head towards WrestleZone’s next big event The Regal Rumble on March 24th.
Sammii Jayne vs Leah Owens
Sammii Jayne has been making her name known around the world. Up here in the north east, she’s known as The Queen of WrestleZone. With wins in Aberdeen over the likes of WWE Mae Young Classic competitor Viper, Debbie Sharpe and a woman she shared a WWE tryout with in the form of Kasey, Sammii now finds herself against WrestleZone debutant and Kasey’s sister Leah Owens. Leah has been making a name for herself in W3L, where she ended the career of Sara. In her WrestleZone debut, the second Owens twin has the chance to make an immediate impact if she’s able to pick up a win over The Queen.
Tickets for the show are available from http://www.ringsideworld.co.uk, priced at £12 for adults and £10 for under 14s. Fans can also pay at the door on the night. Doors at the Summerhill Hotel open at 6:30, with the action set to kick off at 7pm.
