There was a house party at ICW this past weekend, and now there’s a beach party at Discovery on Sunday afternoon. I’m not sure if the Portobello Town Hall is the best place for a beach party, but I’m sure Gene Munny will find a way to make it extravagant. Yes, for some reason Discovery management thought it’d be a good idea to put The Sexual Gammon in charge for the day. What have they gotten themselves in to?

Open Challenge for the Y Division Championship
Joe Coffey (c) vs ???

With his original challenger Chris Ridgeway unable to make it to the show, Joe Coffey has now issued an Open Challenge to anyone to come and face him for the Y Division Championship. Since ending the 666-day reign of Lewis Girvan at Year Three, The Iron King has been on an absolute tear, knocking down everyone that has stepped up to the plate. His list of defeated challengers includes the world-travelled Zack Sabre Jr., fellow NXT UK star Jordan Devlin and reported new NXT signing Matt Riddle. With no idea as to who his opponent will be, will this be the end of Coffey’s reign atop the Y Division?

Hotter Than Hell Edinburgh Invitational Tournament Quarterfinals
Martin Kirby vs Tom Fulton

The Hotter Than Hell Edinburgh Invitational Tournament is back following it’s success last year. The first two quarterfinals are set for Sunday, the first of which will see Martin Kirby make his Discovery debut as he takes on the man from the future Tom Fulton. Kirby has been making waves all over the UK for the past several years. Often viewed as a comedy wrestler, the master of the Zoidberg Elbow has shown that he is capable of much more than when given the right opportunity. His opponent is someone that wasn’t even meant to be in the tournament but following Michael Chase’s suspension and knee surgery, a spot was left open for Tom Fulton. Fulton is someone I know very little of but he seems to be a fun guy to watch. If the match is shown on one of the Fite TV episodes, perhaps I’ll get to know him a bit better.

Hotter Than Hell Edinburgh Invitational Tournament Quarterfinals
Chris Renfrew vs Theo Doros

The second quarterfinal of the weekend will see Chris Renfrew return to Discovery Wrestling as he takes on House of Saynt member Theo Doros. Everyone knows how much success Renfrew has had up and down the UK, but one of the promotions where he hasn’t had too much luck is Discovery. By entering this year’s field of eight, the former New Age Kliq leader has the chance to change that fact. Theo Doros on the other hand is someone that hasn’t gotten across to a wider audience, only recognised by fans of the promotions he competes for. His participation in this year’s Drew Galloway Invitational Tournament has been followed by more achievement, becoming the inaugural Reckless Intent Tag Team Champion and UPW Champion. This quarterfinal could potentially be a career-changing point for either man!

#1 Contenders Match
Nina Samuels vs Viper

With both women feeling as if they’re owed a shot at Sammii Jayne and the Women’s Championship, Nina Samuels and Viper will collide once again to determine a rightful #1 contender. These two faced off at the start of July with Viper coming out on top as the new #1 contender, with this match seeing Nina defend her title opportunity that she still had after being unable to compete in the rescheduled tournament finals last year. Viper meanwhile was owed a title match after being unable to challenge Sammii in December due to injury. Discovery management have decided to put on a second match between the pair to crown an undisputed #1 contender that will challenge The Main Event Empress upon her imminent return from injury. Praying that this ends in some sort of draw so we can get a Triple Threat instead.

King of the Fringe
Colt Cabana vs Joe Hendry

Since both men are scheduled to be part of the 2018 Edinburgh Fringe Festival throughout August, a battle between Colt Cabana and Joe Hendry will be held to determine the King of the Fringe. Cabana was last seen in a Discovery ring two years ago against Aspen Faith, a match he won by DQ. Meanwhile, Hendry recently returned to Discovery at the most recent show after a short absence from his hometown promotion. The Prestigious One is on the roll of his career at the moment, competing for Impact Wrestling, Ring of Honor, and World of Sport Wrestling. Although comedy wrestling isn’t exactly what we know Joe for, I imagine that’s what we’ll see here as he looks to become the King of the Fringe, as well as the King of the Ring.

Open Challenge
The Kings of Catch (Aspen Faith & Lewis Girvan) vs ???

The second of two Open Challenges on Sunday sees The Kings of Catch challenge any two people to come and face them. Since uniting in Discovery, Aspen and Lewis have seen off some of the world’s top tag teams, from The Kings of the North to Omari and CCK’s Chris Brookes to The Young Bucks, and have since issued this invitation for opponents. For those that have been watching the new Filth Life series on YouTube (if you haven’t, why not?), it looks like it could be WrestleZone stars Nathan North and Zach Dynamite answering the call. Very exciting times if you’re familiar with those two.

BT Gunn vs Andy Wild

When you talk about two men that always put in a great showing no matter the situation, surely BT Gunn and Andy Wild are up there at the top of the list. Both men are on top of the Scottish wrestling scene at the moment, with success coming their way left, right, and centre. Gunn hasn’t done too much in his Discovery career, challenging for the Y Division Championship here and there, and competing in the Uncivil War Tournament. Andy Wild however did of course win this year’s Disco Derby, which put him back on the full-time Discovery roster. Since winning the match, he’s had matches against massive names such as German powerhouse Bad Bones and 2018 WWE United Kingdom Championship Tournament winner Zack Gibson. It’s a safe bet to say that whoever wins this match will be inserted in to the championship picture!

El Ligero vs Josh Terry

Rounding off Sunday’s card is NXT UK’s El Ligero making just his second Discovery appearance as he goes one on one with “Turbo” Josh Terry in what is sure to be an extremely fast-paced contest. The last time we saw The Mexican Sensation in Edinburgh was when he defeated Lewis Girvan at Uncivil War despite the best efforts of an interfering Aspen Faith. Ligs certainly left his mark on the Discovery faithful and has been welcomed back with open arms. His opponent is someone we’ve seen a handful of times. Josh Terry debuted in Discovery on the same show as El Ligero and he too was successful, besting Lucha DS and Delsin Dayre in Triple Threat action. He’s someone I wasn’t overly familiar with, but is now a favourite of mine to watch. If there’s one match on this card I hope gets shown on Fite, it’s this one!

Also scheduled to be making his Discovery debut is WhatCulture’s Simon Miller. Although currently out with a shoulder injury, Miller has promised to still make the trip to Edinburgh. Miller has been having issues with Lou King Sharp on Twitter, Sharp feeling that other younger stars should be getting the opportunities as opposed to a YouTube personality. Will the Portobello Town Hall be able to contain the hostilities between these two?

Tickets for this have now sold out, which is no surprise considering the stacked card. However make sure to keep your eyes on the Discovery Facebook page and the Facebook fan group incase tickets become available. Doors open at 2pm, with the action kicking off an hour later!
