Welcome to Starter For 10. We ask professional wrestlers 10 questions so that you can find out a bit more about your favourite real life superheroes.
On this edition, Danny Edwards answers our questions.
What drew you into professional wrestling?
When I was in school, I’d say about Primary 2/3, all my pals started talking about wrestling. I gave it a wee watch and I was hooked. A cliché but it’s true.
Who were your favourite wrestlers going up and who are your favourites now?
When I was younger Jeff Hardy was my favourite, all the cool death-defying stuff had me watching every week. As I got a bit older, I liked watching guys like Edge, CM Punk, and The Miz just wind up the crowd. Nowadays my favourites are mostly in the Scottish scene and are guys I’d love to get in the ring with, guys like BT Gunn, Stevie Boy Xavier, and Liam Thomson. Mostly because that is the level I aspire to be at.
What made you decide to start training to be a wrestler and where did you start?
I just decided one day that this was what I wanted to do and even if I failed I had to try. I looked up training schools, found the PBW Academy, and the rest was history. And I do not regret it in the slightest.
Who are your biggest influences in professional wrestling, as a fan and as a wrestler?
My influences as a fan are the likes of Dolph Ziggler, The Miz, just the real arrogant guys that know how good they are. As a wrestler, I have to say my coach Kid Fite, he has helped me achieve a dream that I never thought I could achieve. Also watching him perform is really cool, he truly does make the fans hate him.
Who has been your favourite opponent(s) and do you have a favourite match?
I’m not sure I have a favourite opponent, I’ve loved working guys such as Ian Skinner, Ray Berani, Darren Vice and so on (the list could go on forever). But it is a great experience when you get to work with guys at the level of Kid Fite, Krieger & Lou King Sharp. My current favourite match would be when myself & Angel Hayze took on Kid Fite & Lou King Sharp, the crowd were right into it and it was super fun.
What has been your career highlight(s) so far?
Career highlight was 100% getting to do the 9 week holiday camp run. I didn’t wrestle all that often but getting to watch guys like El Ligero, Dean Allmark, and Tony Spitfire almost every day for 9 weeks is something I’ll never forget.
Who would be your dream opponent, past or present?
The child in me would love to wrestle Jeff Hardy but the grown up version would love to have a match with Stevie Boy Xavier. I think it would be a great match which I could learn so much from.
Where do you see yourself in 5 years time?
In 5 years time I hope to have my name known across the Scottish scene and maybe down south. Would love to be able to wrestle every weekend, no matter what show.
Where can we find you on social media?
And finally, why do you do what you do?
It truly makes me happy, the feeling you get when you step through that curtain, whether the crowd hate you or love you is surreal. Also it’s nice to think that maybe you’re brightening someone’s day through living your dream.
