For years I was absolutely obsessed with the idea of a professional wrestling talk show. I don’t mean Piper’s Pit, the Highlight Reel or Heartbreak Hotel, nor do I mean any of the legion of insightful podcasts now in circulation around the globe. No, I mean a proper, Graham Norton, Jay Leno, late night, “I should probably be in bed but I need to stay up to see the next guest” talk show.
As a child, teenager then adult with wrestling on the brain, I could never figure out why this didn’t seem to be happening. To me it was such an obvious fit. Imagine it: a panel of guests, not just sharing their own stories, but interacting, laughing, joking, sharing experiences with combinations you wouldn’t usually see in the ring. People would love to watch that…right?!
I got older and between studying journalism at University, I started getting involved in radio shows, events and podcasts before eventually finding my way into a wrestling ring with a microphone in hand. The entire time, I still maintained it was a great idea.
A few more years passed, and after dabbling with a few more ideas, it was “The Power Forward” Mark Coffey who eventually convinced me to take a swing at it. “Get the boys on, it’ll be a laugh” seemed to be the main selling point…and it was hard to argue.
So, after ironing out a few details, on Thursday 17th November 2016, the One Fall Sessions was born. Originally planned as a new podcast, that idea was swiftly abandoned after an evening of utter insanity and perhaps a couple of refreshments gave way to a new concept.
What if, for one night, no one was on their phones? No pictures, no Instagram, no Snapchat, Facebook or Twitter? Imagine it…no recordings! Not a “shoot interview” or a “burial ground”, but a live event that is just that – an event just for the people in the room!
So that’s what we offer – safe space for stories and experiences you won’t get anywhere else, a chance to be up close and personal with some of the best in UK wrestling today over a couple of drinks. And if that’s not enough, it’s a night out like no other!
Growing from the original regulars on the panel, over the last two years there have been 11 Sessions and 11 sell outs, in venues across Glasgow with surprises, unlikely guests and anarchy along the way.
On Friday 22nd March, we are coming to you live from the Admiral Bar as part of the Glasgow International Comedy Festival and our biggest show to date. If you are a wrestling fan, you need to be there! Laughs, drinks, stories and so much more.
Join the circle of trust and get your ticket to the One Fall Sessions. You might get a hangover…but you won’t regret it!
