Fair City Wrestling returns after a successful debut in October in front of a loud ground at the Tulloch Institute in Perth. It was an enjoyable show that was uploaded to Vimeo if you want to check it out (along with my thoughts on the event) here. As of writing there have been seven matches confirmed for their next event, aptly titled ‘II’, that includes tournament bouts, debuts and some interesting match ups including the final match from the most tenacious performer in Scottish wrestling.
Johnny Lions vs Jason Reed
It’s Johnny time. Slated to be ‘Tenacious’ Johnny Lions’ final match before retirement, he faces someone that he is very close to, both are part of the Fife Delight trio (plus Andy Wild), training partners, buddies outside of the ring, however, when the bell rings all that will be off the table when Lions steps in with one of the most vicious competitors in the country on the microphone and between the ropes. Both men are making their Fair City Wrestling debuts and Reed has the chance to make an immediate impact by not only beating Johnny Lions but sending him on his way out of being an active wrestler on his back. As I always write when talking about Jason Reed, he isn’t short of confidence, however, Lions may have taught Reed everything Reed knows… but he hasn’t taught him everything Lions knows. Johnny Lions will be no stranger to the Tayside crowd, having been a staple in Dundee for many years who will no doubt be on the side of the tenacious one. It will be an end of an era but there’s time for one more Lion Cutter is Reed leaves an opening.
*After this article was originally published it was announced that Johnny Lions will no longer be able to attend this event.
Lou King Sharp vs Jason Reed
Following the withdrawal of Johnny Lions, Fair City Wrestling announced his replacement as ‘The Blood Tourist’ Lou King Sharp. Sharp has been wrestling worldwide including a tour of China and numerous trips to Denmark. One of the premier wrestlers in the country right now, Sharp faces the charismatic, and someone that almost as much confidence as Sharp, Jason Reed. This will be an entertaining encounter and an excellent addition to the stacked line up.
The Alpha Male & Umar Mohammed vs Tommy Cross & Taylor Bryden
Umar Mohammed and The Alpha Male have had a rocky start in Fair City Wrestling, suffering a loss in the opening match against Euan G Mackie and Craig Stephens. Though impressive in defeat, it’s not the way that either wanted the outcome to be. Mohammed convinced the towering Alpha Male to team with him again as they are set to take on the pairing of Tommy Cross and the debuting Taylor Bryden. Cross is also looking to get on to the winning path after an unsuccessful debut but again was one that certainly showed that he is one to keep an eye out for. Bryden will be making his Fair City Wrestling debut, he’s been around for a number of years now, considering his home promotion to be W3L, he might have a bit of knowledge on Mohammed who began his training at their Action Academy. This time Mohammed and Alpha Male have more experience as a team (okay, just the one match) so we’ll have to see if there’s any further chemistry coming out of this pairing.
Junior Heavyweight Tournament Quarter Final – John Kerr vs ???
In the first of two Junior Heavyweight Tournament quarter finals, John Kerr has drawn the short straw by not knowing who is opponent is due to be. Kerr certainly showed plenty of fire in his debut in October, dispatching Spike Tierney very quickly thanks to a piledriver but was soon looking at the lights thanks to Olly Silverstone. The winner of this match will go on to face the winner of Tommy Cross versus Johnny Thunder which will take place on a future FCW show.
Junior Heavyweight Tournament Quarter Final – Olly Silverstone vs Spike Tierney
In the second tournament bout scheduled to take place on this show, hometown boy, Olly Silverstone takes on Spike Tierney in what will be a high flying contest with the winner facing Cav in the semi finals. Cav and Silverstone where the final two involved in the six way elimination match in October, with Cav winning in a less than clean manner and thus gaining a quarter final bye into the semis. Silverstone would relish a chance to get his hands on Cav again. Spike was the first eliminated in the six way, bar an early flourish, he will be hoping to show a bit more of his ability when he comes up against, in my opinion, the favourite in the tournament.
The Junior Heavyweight Championship will also be unveiled on December 13th by Commissioner Kevin Williams. We’ll get to see the prize that all seven men involved will be fighting for.
Sammii Jayne vs Emily Hayden
Another debut confirmed for Fair City Wrestling when ‘The Best, The Beautiful, The Only’, ‘Wrestlebeech’ and ‘Emily Two Belts’ Emily Hayden makes her way to the Tulloch Institute. She faces hometown girl Sammii Jayne who is riding high after a win in the main event in a fantastic match against Angel Hayze and Rayhne. ‘The Main Event Empress’ will look to keep that momentum going but she faces a familiar foe in a match that might once again steal the show. Two wrestlers that are at the top of their game right now, it makes for a must see contest.
Aspen Faith vs Zack Leon
The first match confirmed for FCW’s debut event in October, it was curtailed due to Zack Leon no longer being able to attend. It’s happening on December 13th. ‘The Catch Caveman’, ‘The King of Catch’, ‘The Lost Boy’ Aspen Faith against ‘The Man Of Glam’ Zack Leon. Both men have been taking 2019 as a year to evolve, both men have found themselves bulking up and becoming more and more powerful. This could be a clash of titans when this match rolls around. Much like Faith versus Kaiden in October this will be interesting to see who sets the tone as the match begins with Faith very much able to switch up his style on a dime, the question is are we getting the fun loving ‘Man Of Glam’ or this more recent dark rocker bad guy that has recently been making his presence known in Dundee.
Mike Musso vs Euan G Mackie vs Jack Morris vs Ian Ambrose
The main event has been confirmed to be a colossal four way match with two debuts and two returns but with some gulfs in experience across the board. Current W3L Heavyweight Champion Mike Musso, has just about done everything and been everywhere in Scotland, makes his FCW debut along with the current SWA X Division Champion Jack Morris, Morris is one of those wrestlers that is all upside with his look, ability and charisma. They enter this fatal four way against the nefarious, but very good, Euan G Mackie, hoping to continue his undefeated streak (currently 1-0) in FCW, and Ian Ambrose, who replaced Luke Aldridge following the latters assault on ‘The Hashtag Scumbag’ after their match in October. Ambrose will be wanting to get on the winning path in FCW. This has a little bit of everything, from the power of Mike Musso, the agility of Jack Morris, the technique of Ian Ambrose and the mental prowess of Euan G Mackie. This will be a clash of styles, which often makes for the best matches. This might get ugly in a hurry.
All that plus, if you’re early enough to get there for 6pm, you can get in a little earlier and catch a match taped for World Wide Wrestling League’s Wrestling Showdown web series.
Tickets are limited, but still available, at fcw.eventbrite.com for what looks to be another stellar line up from Fair City Wrestling.
