Welcome to Starter For 10. We ask professional wrestlers 10 questions so that you can find out a bit more about your favourite real life superheroes.
On this edition, Brandon Adams answers our questions.
What drew you into professional wrestling?
I really got into wrestling around 2006, when one of the first matches I saw was Rey Mysterio vs Edge. I really hooked onto Rey’s underdog persona and the incredible feats and athleticism got me hooked.
Who were your favourite wrestlers growing up and who are your favourites now?
Growing up my favourites were always Rey Mysterio and RVD, and I still think they’re great to this day. But in my opinion there’s no greater wrestler currently in the world than Daniel Bryan.
What made you decide to start training to be a wrestler and where did you start?
I decided to start training around 12/13 since I needed something to do after school. I started off at a school that unfortunately wasn’t going to get me or anyone else very far. So in 2016 I moved over to Reckless Intent’s school (now the Lothian Academy of Professional Wrestling) and I’ve been slowly bettering myself and my work since then!
Who are your biggest influences in professional wrestling, as a fan and as a wrestler?
In terms of as a person, I got to say John Cena, for a guy to be so busy, and so time tested and to still do all the great things he does AND be a great guy too really takes a lot. In terms of performance, my biggest influences are Daniel Bryan and CM Punk, the hard hitting styles along with incredible innovation is just remarkable.
Who has been your favourite opponent(s) and do you have a favourite match?
Recently I’ve enjoyed beating up Steven Myles and Alex Webb of the Fair City Saints. But if I had to highlight one match it would probably be myself vs BT Gunn from late 2018 at RI. That match was a huge test for me and I’m honoured it happened.
What has been your career highlight(s) so far?
I have to pick two here. First off was picking up the RI Tag Team Championship with Delsin Dayre last year, ending the Age of Orion’s reign. And secondly, a lot more recently, was debuting over at Discovery Wrestling, defeating nine other guys. Hopefully that will lead to many more appearances in the future.
Who would be your dream opponent, past or present?
If were talking all time it would have to be RVD. I’ve taken so much inspiration from him and to stand against him would be so surreal. But also Daniel Bryan would be an incredible opponent and the perfect guy to test myself against.
Where do you see yourself in 5 years time?
In 5 years time I want to at least be travelling up and down the UK and possibly into Europe and beyond, wrestling more dates until my schedule is completely full.
Where can we find you on social media?
And finally, why do you do what you do?
I do what I do because I have an endless love for the craft. Wrestling is an art form with so many intricacies and nuances. It’s what I decided to do and I won’t stop until I’m known as one of the greats.
